Introducing theoperator.ai
Vision
AI is drastically lowering barriers across knowledge areas and skill sets, reshaping how we build products and run businesses. We are moving toward a future where “doing the work” is as simple as directing an AI agent - no armies of employees required.
That’s both exciting and radically different from how most of us operate today. It diminishes traditional advantages of scale, meaning smaller operators who adopt the right AI tools and approaches can compete head-on with established companies that are an order of magnitude larger. It also signals that the very structure of organisations will fundamentally change.
Hypothesis
Our core belief is that humans will still matter. Even in an AI-rich future, the operator - whether an individual or a small team - will be key. By orchestrating multiple AI agents, platforms, and tools, the operator becomes the crucial link. Off-the-shelf AI solutions won’t be universally perfect or fully autonomous, so someone must integrate them for maximum leverage and competitive advantage. That’s where the operator will shine, piecing everything together to achieve multiplied impact and an edge on the competition.
Purpose
theoperator.ai will guide you in using AI to achieve outsized impact with minimal resources. Whether you're looking to increase your personal effectiveness, grow a solo venture, or help your small team compete against larger players, we explore how AI can magnify your capabilities by orders of magnitude.
Through practical guides and insights, we cover both technical and non-technical approaches to working with AI. While some workflows use simple no-code tools, others involve light coding. To truly excel as an "AI operator," you'll develop technical fluency along the way - and we provide the resources to help you level up at your own pace.
Structure
The platform is divided into two core parts:
- theoperator.ai – Essays, insights, and discussions on AI-enabled workflows, strategy, and innovation.
- manual.theoperator.ai – A living, open-source “operating manual” for building AI-augmented systems and running AI-driven teams, covering everything from quarterly planning to advanced prompt engineering.
As new processes are tested and refined in the blog, the manual is updated with actionable tips. If you’d like to contribute workflows or case studies, check out our open-source repository.
Implementation
We’ll spotlight both current AI tools and emerging platforms, always aiming to create workflows that multiply your impact. Our focus is twofold:
- Practical Playbooks: Step-by-step guides in the manual on integrating AI into everyday operations.
- Organizational Models: Exploring how best to structure AI-driven systems and teams (including solo teams) for seamless, scalable operations.
As the AI ecosystem evolves, we'll expand beyond these core areas to bring you new formats and insights that help you stay ahead.
Community
We plan to publish new blog posts every Tuesday and Thursday - updating the manual at the same time. You can:
- Subscribe to our newsletter to get the latest posts in your inbox
- Join our Discord to discuss strategies, share your AI wins, and help shape future posts
Many examples here come from experiences at an early-stage startup and as a solo founder - but we’ll also experiment with new ideas and theories for working with AI. If you have a unique use case, find a guide particularly helpful, or just want to chat, hop into the Discord!
